Mai Vang wants a promotion, but frequently doesn’t show up for her current job.
Mai Vang served on the Sacramento Regional Transit District Board of Directors from January to December 2024. During that time, Vang missed 41.7% of the monthly meetings. She also failed to send an alternate to the meetings she missed. That attendance record would get most employees fired. 1
Vang served on the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District Board of Directors between January 2024 and January 2026, and missed 42.1% of those meetings. 2
Vang served on the Sacramento Transportation Authority, missed four straight meetings, and was subsequently was replaced in 2024. 3
And now Mai Vang thinks she deserves a promotion?
Mai Vang is a hypocrite who says she is a political outsider and claims that she does not take corporate PAC money. But as a councilmember, Vang took nearly sixty-thousand dollars in contributions from corporations, LLCs, and other business interests, including contributions from utility corporations, real estate developers, and casinos. Less than 54% of her funding came from individual donors. 4

Mai Vang claims to care about people in need. But in reality, she continuously voted against critical city funding that would improve public safety and protect vulnerable families.

Homeless Services
Vang has voted against a total of $136 million in funding across five city budgets for the Department of Community Response, which includes funding for shelter beds, homeless assistance and outreach services, and responding to 311 calls.
Immigrant Legal Assistance
Vang has voted against a total of $2 million in grant funding across four city budgets for the Sacramento Family Unity, Education, and Legal (FUEL) Network, which provides legal aid and other services to undocumented immigrants and refugees.
Affordable Housing Programs
Vang has voted against a total of $20 million across five city budgets for Measure U affordable housing programs, which includes resources for planning and zoning services and reduced development fees to promote affordable housing development.
Climate Action Programs
Vang has voted against a total of $3 million across five city budgets for Measure U climate action programs, which includes funding for programs aimed at reducing the city’s greenhouse gas emissions and staffing the Climate Action and Sustainability Office.
Utility Bill Assistance
Vang has voted against a total of $24.7 million in funding across five city budgets for the Sacramento Utility Rate Assistance program, which provides financial assistance for water, sewer and garbage bills to income-eligible households.
Youth Violence Prevention
Vang has voted against a total of $6.8 million in funding across five city budgets for the city’s Gang Prevention and Intervention Taskforce grant program, which offers grants to community organizations that provide violence prevention programs and services to at-risk youth.
Mai Vang is more focused on making flashy political statements on social media than doing the hard work of getting things done.

She repeatedly voted against budgets needed to keep the City of Sacramento running because she supports Defunding the Police and brags about voting against police funding on social media.

She's failed to effectively address homelessness in Sacramento, and voted against funding for housing and programs to help get homeless off the streets and into essential services.
Instead of doing the hard work of getting things done, Mai Vang focuses most of her time trying to make a splash on social media. With a slogan like “Mai Time,” it’s clear she is focused more on herself rather than delivering for the people she’s supposed to represent.

While refusing to vote for homeless services, Mai Vang also tries to stop practical solutions to helping homeless off the streets and into services.
In addition to Vang’s votes noted above (against a total of $136 million in funding across five city budgets for the Department of Community Response, which includes funding for shelter beds, homeless assistance and outreach services, and responding to 311 calls), she also has opposed common-sense efforts to address homelessness:

In July 2025, Vang voted against an ordinance that banned homeless residents from sleeping on City Hall grounds.

In 2022, Vang opposed and voted against the measure to required the City to create more shelter beds and prohibiting camping if a person is offered shelter and refuses.
It’s time to ask the question: Has Mai Vang delivered anything for Sacramento?
